Our Mission:
To Receive Empowerment and Direction
From God's Holy Spirit To Study, Proclaim, and Dispense
The Gospel of Jesus Christ
Exemplarily Through Our Christian Living
To
Reach the Lost
To Warn the Sinner
To Inform the Confused
To Give Hope & Comfort to the Down-trodden
To Encourage & Equip the Saints
And To Inspire & Evangelize Our World
Through the Inerrant Word of God
So That the Body of Christ is Edified,
And Jesus Christ, Our Great Head,
is Magnified to the Utmost

"For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  Then we which are alive [and] remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.  Wherefore comfort one another with these words."

I Thessalonians 4:16-18

We are an independent, Bible-based Baptist Church, located on the south side of Ames, Iowa.  We are also a loving church full of everyday, regular, educated, and 'down home' folk who just love Jesus.  We are also associated with the Southern Baptist Convention.

HISTORY TO CURRENT:  The conception of Friendship Baptist Church began in December 1987 through three God-fearing women in prayer. They believed a church was needed in Ames to reach the African American community. However, Friendship Baptist Church's mission was to reach all people regardless of race, creed or color.

On April 16, 1989, Friendship had their first worship service and commitment ceremony, where the Reverend Michael F. Thurman was the Pastor. The Southern Baptist Conference and University Baptist Church,  Friendship's sister church, supported this mission. University Baptist show their support by allowing Friendship to use their facility as a place of worship and for other church-related activities, and by providing other means of support as needed.

In 1993, Reverend Terrance L. Shane became the Pastor of Friendship.

On October 1, 2000, Friendship Baptist Church and University Baptist Church became a joint corporation by "Executing the vision of joint property ownership." The corporation was called Three Cord Ministries. The name of the ministry was inspired by the scripture, "And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken," Ecclesiastes 4:12.  During this corporation, the size of the building was expanded to accommodate the growth of both churches. This God-given vision of joint ownership and church expansion was shared by Friendship's former Pastor, Reverend Terrance Shane, who went home to glory in December 2003. Friendship Baptist Church and University Baptist Church continue to share the church facility.

In November 2005, God sent the Reverend Isaac K. Gentry, Sr. to lead us as our Pastor.

Pastor Gentry continues to lead Friendship in Spirit and in Truth by following the vision that God has given him for our church.  The ministries of Friendship have grown since his installation, and new ones continue to bud, all in line with his vision for the ministry at Friendship Baptist Church.  Already, under the vision that the Lord has given Pastor Gentry, our Brotherhood has launched "Operation Timothy," which has caused the membership of the young men at our church to grow.

We have implemented a Mother's Board under Pastor Gentry, which is the spiritual arm designed to meet spritual needs of our church, and the pastor.  Ironically, this website's existence was also conceived and brought to fruition in March 2006 under Pastor Gentry's vision for our church - as we prepare to do ministry and reach the lost in this electronic age of the 21st century.  He was the architect for its design and most of its original content.  We look forward to what the Lord has in store for Friendship Baptist Church now, and into the unseen future, which is all in God's divine hand.   All Praise and All Glory to goes to God!
